Jim was drawing Abigail a map to the best turkey hunting spots here. I don't know if you can use your bow and arrow on them here Abigail. But, we are sure you could research the law on this for us!

The Woodsmith Store...the only one and Iowa has it.

These two wandered the isles with big smiles on their faces for quite a while. I can't list anything they purchased becuase their wives might see this blog!

The old Govenor's Mansion. Des Moines Skyline in the background.

Some pretty fancy older homes here too!

Nice Neighborhood. The streets were brick with sand dusted in the cracks. This was near the old Govenor's Mansion.

How many tractors are laying around in this photo??

You can click on this one to enlage it. This guy had all these tractors sitting out in his yard. Apparently it is cool to show off all your toys.

Photos posted on the local Sporting goods Brag board

Looks like they take the Turkey hunting seriously!

National Wild Turkey Federation---Iowa Walmart

We stopped in at Wal-Mart and I found a great selection of Turkey Calls. There must have been over 20 types of turkey calls. They had lots of turkey decoys and even turkey hats. Must be a bunch of turkeys running around here! They did have portable worm farms and worm food in little yellow coolers. It appears fishing is pretty popular too!

The license plates here

Well, this is a local license plate. Not a lot of imports here, per capita. The lady at the rental company said it can be hard to find someone to work on your import here.

Minnesota and Iowa family photos.

Found some old photos related to some of the travel spots. These are some of my relatives. I don't know the year of the photo with Minnesota, but it has Spring Valley Minnesota on the bottom of the print.

The backs of the lower prints both have Iowa. I included the reverse of the photos too.

California-Iowa Connections--Iowa this trip

My grandson asked me to make him a short video with some family history. I pulled out a box and noticed that some of the relatives lived in Des Moines, Iowa. My big brothers are the little fellas in the photos on the right. The Shivers go back to Iowa and the Pease Family also. This would be my father's Maternal Side. I thought I would post a few of the old docs and photos. I wonder if the stamps are worth anything??

Iowa Family artifacts I had hanging around

Deeds and documents like this sit in trunks and nobody dusts them off. I am guilty of this too. The Shivers and Pease family documents show migration via Wyoming, Idaho, Kennewick Washington (Door's there too), Seattle, and then to California. I like the old Signatures. I have a Wyoming Fence Company book with family records had written.

Des Moines Iowa this trip, I had relatives there

They were doing business there a while back. The document is a Birth Announcement written by Grace regarding Herrold Pease. The Des Moines Hat Co. was at 4049 Walnut Street. This was 1907. E.C. Pease was the President and Manager of the Company.
F.W. Rampton was Vice Pres. and Treasurer. I have a trunk full of stuff back to 1750 in New York. All the family records-hand written-who married who and what children.
